The Bible teaches that godly leadership is critical to the health of the church (1 Tim 3:1-15, Titus 1:5). The New Testament describes two leadership offices in the local church: elders and deacons.

The ELDERS

The elders are also called pastors or overseers in the Bible. The elders are charged with the responsibility to safeguard sound doctrine (Titus 1:9); rule, care and manage the church (1 Tim 3:5, 5:17); commit themselves to the ministry of God's Word (1 Tim 5:17, Acts 6:4); shepherd the people in the church (1 Peter 5:2), and give an account to God for the spiritual state of the church (Heb 13:17).
